10 point victory for Ashby B vs Magna Cobras

Magna Cobras  54 : 64 Aztecs B

Aztecs B started their 2018/19 away campaign with an explosive overtime victory against the experienced Magna Cobras. After a balanced opening 5 minutes the Aztecs failed to convert their scoring opportunities, allowing the Cobras to open up a 13 point lead at the quarter (22:9).

An inspired change to a 1:3:1 defence restricted the home team to just 2 points in the second quarter, and contributions from Obembe (4) and Hanson (6) closed the gap to just 5 at the break (24:19).

With the team growing in confidence, the second half began with Harrap converting from distance, including 2 three pointers, and with solid defensive contributions from Robson, Johnson and Harrap the Aztecs eventually edged ahead during the final quarter. The game remained close and a final basket by Johnson took the game into overtime at 47 all.

What happened in the next 5 minutes will remain in the memories of the team for ever as the giant Obembe awoke from the slumber, rose to the challenge and exploded into action, dominating both boards, driving coast to coast on several occasions, scoring 12 points and with two further assists for Harrap ensured the Aztecs ran out comfortable 54:64 winners. Not even the technical foul (something about the men in grey not going to Specsavers) could detract from this Man of the Match performance.

With impressive cameo performances from rookies McMillan, Idowu and Garner ably supported by the more experienced Jackson and Youles, stand in Coach Hanson can report back to the otherwise indisposed Coach Kershaw that the pressure is now on to continue the teams learning, development, progression and improvement as the team seek to move up the league tables.

Aztecs Scorers : Obembe (MOTM) 20, Hanson S 19, Harrap 17, Johnson 6, Robson 2

Ashby B vs Royales

Royales 52 – Ashby B 46

A tough game with some excellent defending by Ashby who just couldn’t completely close the gap. Lots of fouls and intercepted passes on offence allowed the Royales to maintain their lead in the 3rd and 4th quarter.

Coaching point for next game – Control the ball and make sensible passes!

Ashby B vs Rawlins B

64 Rawlins B vs 39 Ashby B (AWAY)

A tough game for Ashby B with only 5 players available for the first quarter but a resilient start nonetheless. The lack in numbers meant that the intensity couldn’t be sustained for the full match. Great effort though!

Ashby B vs Bosworth B

Ashby B 64 Bosworth B 69

Ashby narrowly lost out to a more consistent Bosworth B in the last quarter. After trading baskets for 3 quarters, a series of bad fouls allowed Bosworth to re-take the lead from the free throw line in the last quarter. A good start to the year from Ashby B with one of the best performances of the season. Lets see a win in our next game!

Latest scores Ashby B

Sorry about the lack of updates! I am missing a few score sheets…

The latest scores from the B team are below: The B team have struggled to win against more consistent teams over the past few weeks. Some work needs to be done on the fundamentals to prevent silly mistakes like giving the ball away before the offence has started! The B team is now looking to win its next few games to secure its positioning in Div 3 for next year’s season.
